FAQs

Why does this site exist?

Each year OCAD University holds a graduating show in Toronto, where this work would have been publicly showcased. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, that exhibition show which normally has foot traffic of over 40,000 people, was cancelled. So I decided to showcase my work digitally instead.

How long will this site stay online?

For as long as it makes sense.

Is this site accessible?

Accessibility is important. Wherever possible, I have produced audio and visual alternatives for the content shared on this site. Additionally, this site is built on a Squarespace platform – they take accessibility seriously.

What is inclusive design?

A methodology, born out of digital environments, that draws on the full range of human diversity with the aim of creating more accessible solutions for those experiencing some/any kind of exclusion. Learn more about it here and here.

What is your writing style?

Academic integrity with journalistic flair. I am interested in the serious things of life, but I approach them somewhat poetically. As noted in the preface of my major research project this work pays attention to the work of decolonization. I embody this narration with recognition that decolonization is an improbable achievement without the presence of the colonized body.

Why is it called Contexture?

Contexture (n): the fact or manner of being woven or linked together to form a connected whole. This project is a series, each part is complete in itself but connected to the others. Additionally, the nature of the Caribbean is a kind of “same but different” existence.

Why is the fictional book called WI Remember?

This book is from the future (about 100 years from now). WI Remember is a play on We Remember the West Indies. WI is shorthand for West Indies. This is a call to action. The Caribbean is a vulnerable place and if we don’t act now, we risk no longer being able to call these islands home.

What is the vision for Contexture?

Simply to share these well researched ideas and encourage others to tap into their creativity. The pedagogical toolkit is available for use. If you are a teacher, feel free to try out the toolkit in your classroom and share your experience with me at thisiscontexture@gmail.com

Why did you choose Contexture as your Masters thesis?

I didn’t. It chose me.
